Kampfer Assigned to Providence

On Saturday, Bruins General Manager Peter Chiarelli announced that defenseman Steven Kampfer has been assigned to the Providence Bruins in the AHL (American Hockey League). Kampfer will join forward Zach Hamill in Providence and was expected to play today for the team.

This season Kampfer has played in 10 games for the B’s but hasn’t made much of an impact with only two assists and four penalty minutes. For the most part, Kampfer has been the reliable healthy scratch. To be honest in the games that I’ve seen him play in I’m not very impressed so I think heading down to Providence to get some playing time will be good for the defenseman.

Last year was Kampfer’s first full year in the NHL and he played in 38 games registering five goals and  five assists and he also played 22 games with the P-Bruins.

With the trade deadline fast approaching, I wonder if this is a sign that Chiarelli and Co. are looking to sign a defenseman that’ll make more of an impact for the Bruins.
