Bruins and Devils are meeting for the 136th time in history with teh Bruins holding a 70-37-19-10 record. (via @NHLBruins)
The Bruins last loss to teh Devils was a 3-2 loss on April 10, 2011.
As you can see there have bee some line changes tonight, putting Seguin with Krejci and Lucic. Both Krejci and Seguin have been struggling lately, Julien is perhaps looking to strike a spark with this line and get something going. Rolston, being a versatile player, is playing right wing to Bergeron and will get the starting position tonight.
Seguin flies up the wing, throws it over to Lucic to Krejci who bangs it in just 1:13 in. 1-0 BOSTON!
Seems that line change might work out quite nicely.
Seguin’s quote before the game tonight:
“It would be nice to get a quick [goal] right away-move on forward from [OTT]. We’re all looking forward to tonight,”(via @NHLBruins)
Thornton and Boulton drop the gloves and both shake the elbow pads off simultaneously. Boulton goes over and under. Thornton misses upper cut. He’s yapping the whole way, Boulton jabs again, Shawn steps into one , both are landing some,Thornton tags him with a right goes combination, Boulton says it didn’t hurt and he shakes his head. Thornton throws the hard jabs, and it’s broken up by the refs. Five for fighting a piece.
Thornton went right to the dressing room after that fight, looks like an equipment repair as no additional penalties were dished out.
Lucic up the left hand side, out muscles his man, gives it to Seguin and he puts it by Brodeur. 2-0 BOSTON!!!
Seguin now has 2-points in 8 minutes.
Thomas picked up an assist on Seguin’s goal (his first of the season) along with Lucic.
Krejci has a short-handed opportunity and Brodeur throws a pinwheel save.
13:40 Thornton just returned to the Bruins bench, looks like he’s okay.
Lucic-Krejci-Seguin line with another great opportunity, looks like this line has been together all year, they just know where each other is on the ice. . .Looks like Marchand and Seguin when they were first put together.
Zanon throws a check knocking David Clarkson down and Bruins fans ebrace him with cheers. Welcome to the Boston Bruins Universe Zanon.
McQuaid sets up and drills a New Jersey player shoulder to chest. Shortly after whistle is blown and there is a roughing call on New Jersey. They threw a hit at Krejci afterwards, Bruins go on the power play.
First Period Notes:
The ‘french fries’ and ‘franchise’ line are heating up the ice creating opportunity after opportunity. Segui nhas snapped a 10-game drought and holds 2 points already in the first period with a goal and an assist. Tim Thomas picks up his first assist of the season on Seguin’s goal and Krejci nets one as well. Heading into the second the Bruins are going to need to keep the momentum up and continue keeping the Devils out of their zone.
Thomas with a nice save on Parise who puts a shot right on net.
Bruins give it away and Kovalchuk and Parise cut the lead to 1. 2-1 Boston.
Wondering who gave it away, your guess would be correct with Joe Corvo. Perhaps he should be the healthy scratch next game?
Patrick Elias erases the 2-0 lead and New Jersey is back in. Pouliot takes the draw and the Devils get possession, shot and score. 2-2
Caron 2-on-1 with Kelly and it gets a shoulder on Brodeur deflecting high into the glass.
Thornton a drive, save by Brodeur and he holds on to it.
David Clarkson finds a hole behind Tim Thomas and the post and the Devils now lead 3-2.
With the way the Bruins are playing right now, they will be lucky to make it past the first round in the play-offs, let alone anything else.
Interference call against Boston and the Devils are on the power play with just over a minute remaining in the second.
Second Period Notes:
Bruins give up a 2-0 lead to the Devils and allow them to gain a one-goal lead. The second period, again, sloppy making bad decisions and allowing the Devils to outplay them. They need to be getting the puck in deep and they aren’t doing that as well as making good decisions in the neutral zone, not creating turnovers. I suspect Claude will sit a few under-performing players in the third. Let’s hope the Bruins come out playing like the third period dominating team we have all come to know and love.
Pushing and shoving in the crease, Lucic surrounded by 5 Devils as the linesmen calm things down.
Chara in front of the net, bats the puck down, over to Krejci who manages to get it past Brodeur to tie the game at 3!!! Bruins are back in it thanks to David Krejci, Milan Lucic and Zdeno Chara’s efforts!
Petr Sykora goes to the box for delay of game shortly after and the Bruins have momentum on their side, the arena is on their feet cheering and they are granted with a power play opportunity. Make it happen.
McQuaid loads one up and it goes into Sykora who doubles over in pain.
Henrique is down in the corner after a big collision and it looks like Zdeno Chara is headed back to the penalty box for high sticking.
Kelly and Bergeron up ice with a two-on-one DING! Off the post.
Rolson with a nice opportunity.
Seguin up ice to Lucic throws to Krejci that goes off the skate and into the neutral zone.
Bergeron intercepts and Marchand flips it backhand, save Brodeur.
Chara a blast, knocked down Ponikarovsky, Seguin attacks it and New Jersey clears as the final minute remains in regulation.
Both teams coming into tonight looking for goals and to gain a couple of points in a win, each walking out with at least one point tonight as we head into Overtime. Bruins are going to need to apply the pressure right off the opening face-off and keep it in the offensive zone in order to come up big or manage to send it to a shutout.
Shipping Up To Boston gets us started here in the 5:00 sudden death overtime. Bruins win opening face-off.
Corvo takes the ice for his shift and the Devils gain possession of the puck. He leaves for a line change, Bruins get possession back. Coincidence?
DAVID KREJCI!!!!! DAVID KREJCI GETS THE OVERTIME GOAL. One man rush, all by himself in the offensive zone, kept the play alive and scores the GAME-WINING GOAL!! BRUINS WIN!!
Three Stars: #3 Zach Parisze #2 Milan Lucic #1 DAVID KREJCI
