Welcome to Boston Marty! With the waiver deadline today at noon, Marty Turco took the ice with the team unknowing if he would actually become a member of the Boston Bruins.
“It’s just another chapter in the book,” Turco said. “You get dressed, prepare to practice, but you do have to adhere to the rules and wait for the nod. So you sit there in the bullpen. It felt like I was 15 years old again waiting to practice with the big boys.”(Via NESN)
Eventually Turco got the go ahead from General Manager Peter Chiarelli and joined the team for practice. Turco is eager and excited to get his start in the rest of the regular season. (Because he signed after the trade deadline, he is ineligible to play in the playoff’s for the Bruins). This will be Turco’s return to the NHL as he was most recently in Austria. This was the Bruin’s creative way to get a back up goalie after Tuukka Rask was sidelined on Saturday with a groin injury.
Because Turco was signed, Michael Hutchinson was sent back to Providence. Hutchinson traveled with the team for the weekend road trip but never saw any playing time. This will definitely benefit Providence having Hutch back and I’m sure it’s not the last time the 22 year old goalie will make an appearance in Boston.
Sauve Called Up!
Max Sauve of the Providence Bruins was recalled by Boston on an emergency basis today. My guess behind this recall is Benoit Pouliot’s day to day injury that he got last night in Toronto. Sauve will join the team tomorrow for their 10:30 morning skate at the TD Garden. This season in Providence, the 22 year-old has seven goals and ten assists in 29 games.
The Bruins return to home ice tomorrow against the Buffalo Sabres.
