Last year it was a vintage yard sale jacket. This year it’s a padlocked chain. After game one’s overtime win, Chris Kelly was given a 20-link padlocked chain to celebrate his goal and the win. The 20 links represent the 20 players that dress for every game, with each link being just as strong and valuable as the next.
“It’s something, kind of like last year with the jacket, Andrew [Ference] made something that symbolizes a team, a chain,” said Chris Kelly, recipient of the first chain. “Try not to be that weak link, and it’s one of those things that you pass out after a game. It’s one of those things that’s all in good fun. It just started for the playoffs.”(Via NESN)
The chain will be given to the unsung hero of every game during the playoff run. Last year the vintage jacket made quite a statement though this chain is definitely given it a run for it’s money. It’s little things like this that really make me proud to be a Bruin’s fan.
It’ll be interesting to see what players rock the chain during the rest of playoffs.
