Daily Countdown: 128 Days

Former Bruin Bill Ranford hopes to help the LA Kings bring the cup home (Credit: Flickr/ Kasey Spatz)

Tonight is game 1 of the Stanley Cup Finals between the LA Kings and the New Jersey Devils. This day last year was media day for the Stanley Cup Finals in which our beloved Boston Bruins played and eventually won. Though none of our boys will be hoisting up the cup come next week, there is a part of the Bruins on the LA Kings, who are my favorite to win.

Boston fans will know Bill Ranford as a third round pick goaltender back in 1985. Now he’s the Kings goaltending coach working with my pick for Venzina winner Jonathan Quick. The pair have been working together for 5 years.

Ranford was a Bruin twice in his hockey playing days and has fond memories of playing in Boston.

“[Boston] is a great city. It was an excellent city to live in when I played there, and I still have friends there to this day,” said Ranford. “I was at Game 5 and went in to see Harry [Sinden] in the Bruins box. I still keep in touch with Johnny Bucyk. There are guys on the [Cup winning] team that I knew a little bit over the years.”(Via CSNNE)

Good luck to Ranford and the Kings tonight!
