Daily Countdown: 97 Days B’s 1st Round Pick

Welcome to the Boston Bruins Malcolm Subban (Credit:NHLBruins Twitter)

Tonight was round 1 of the 2012 NHL Draft and the Boston Bruins had the ever exciting 24th draft pick. As players were being picked and current players were being traded around, all remained quiet on the Boston front. But eventually the 24th pick came and it was…

If that last name sounds a bit familiar, you’re not second guessing…that is in fact Montreal Canadien P.K Subban’s little brother. And yes I mean the Montreal that we in Boston loathe. I think our rivalry just took a whole new turn for the better/ I personally cannot wait to own a Subban BRUINS jersey!

Subban was 25-14-0 with a 2.50 GAA and a .923 save percentage with Bellville Bulls (OHL) last year. Going into the draft, he was the number 1 North American goaltender. He played for Team Canada at the 2011 World Under-18 Championships getting a shutout in his first game. He finished the tournament with 2.98 goals-against average and a .913 save percentage.

With Tim Thomas leaving the team, it doesn’t really surprise me that the Bruins would select a goalie in the first round. So I think it was a great call.

Check out his prospect video below:

On being drafted Subban said:

“I’m just so happy…I’m going to work as hard as I can to crack the lineup sometime” (Via NHLBruins)

The Bruins organization is equally excited with General Manager Peter Chiarelli saying:

“Subban’s selection fulfills 2 criteria: top player, fillers a need. And with TT out of the system, a spot in the roster is open. He needs some seasoning, foundation is there”. (Via NHLBruins)

Just because here are some of Subban’s favorites courtesy of NHL.com:
NHL team: New York Rangers
NHL player: Henrik Lundqvist …he wore number 30 for the Bulls in honor of Lundqvist
Goal celebration: Jaromir Jagr’s salute
Video game: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3
Artist: Eminem and Drake
Movie: Fast Five
TV show: NHL on the Fly and TSN
Website: YouTube
Pump-up song: ‘Cinderella Man’ by Eminem

There have been many tweets talking about a Subban sporting a Bruins jersey but I think Tyler Seguin’s takes the cake:

And with that being said, Welcome to Boston Malcolm =)
